Title IX and Student Defense
Bozorgi Law has experience defending students facing disciplinary violations involving their university or college. This includes representing students charged under Title IX, which affords the student with certain rights, including the right to counsel. We have handled sexual assault allegations, stalking allegations, hazing allegations, cheating allegations, disciplinary allegations as a result of parallel criminal allegations, and/or actual arrests and many other code of conduct violations handled through a university’s or college’s disciplinary process.
When a student gets arrested and faces criminal charges, it sets off a domino effect of consequences. Whether a student is accused of a criminal offense occurring on campus or off campus, it will likely trigger a parallel disciplinary violation through the student’s university or college.
Conversely, even minor incidents that occur on campus can trigger criminal investigations and result in criminal charges. Universities and colleges are subject to strict guidelines by the Department of Education and federal statutes and the Higher Education Opportunity Act which amended the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) regarding the reporting of misconduct on campus.
Disciplinary proceedings can have far-reaching direct or collateral consequences for a student’s educational career and future.
